With the nominations for the 84th Academy Awards in just around 36 hours, I'm gearing up for my annual Oscar watching tradition. Since 2004, I've tried each year to see every Oscar-nominated film prior to the awards ceremony. This generally consists of anywhere between 50 and 60 films, and occupies a good amount of my free time in late January and February.

Some years, the task has proven impossible, as short documentaries, feature documentaries, and foreign language films are sometimes simply not available in the US without actually being a member of the Academy or living in the right city where they're screening at special events. I lucked out for most of those years by living in New York City, where the museums and independent theaters did a great job of providing opportunities to see otherwise unavailable films. The last two years, despite living in less-cooperative Seattle, WA, I've still managed to see all nominees. Thus, I'll be trying again this year.

I've decided that I'll be using my blog on this wiki to document my progress and record my thoughts and reflections about the films I see in the process. I hope other Oscars Wiki editors enjoy following along and that some might even be inspired to do the same.

So as I await the official nominations on Tuesday morning, I'm mentally preparing for a marathon. Wish me luck!
