The Power of the Dog is a 2021 western drama film about Phil Burbank, a rancher who enjoys tormenting the people around him, suddenly finding himself mellowing out as he bonds with his, in his mind, weak-willed nephew. The film is directed and written by Jane Campion, based on Thomas Savage's book of the same name. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Thomasin McKenzie, Genevieve Lemon, Keith Carradine, and Frances Conroy. Released by Netflix, the film had its world premiere at the 78th Venice Film Festival on September 2, 2021, and began a limited theatrical release on November 17, followed by digital streaming three weeks later on December 1.
