Sarah Polley is a Canadian actress, film director, and screenwriter. Polley first attained notice in her role as Sara Stanley in the Canadian television series, "Road to Avonlea". Polley made her feature film directorial debut with Away from Her, for which she also adapted the screenplay, earning her a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination. She won in this same category 15 years later for Women Talking, which she also directed.

As an actress, she appeared in Oscar-nominated films, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and The Sweet Hereafter. Additionally, she has directed one Oscar-nominated performance, Julie Christie's Best Actress turn in Away from Her.
