Randall Stuart "Randy" Newman is an Academy Award-winning American singer, songwriter, conductor, composer, and pianist who is known for his mordant pop songs and for film scores. Newman often writes lyrics from the perspective of a character far removed from his own experiences, sometimes using the point of view of an unreliable narrator. Since the 1980s, Newman has worked mostly as a film composer and conductor. His film scores include Ragtime (1981), The Natural (1984), Awakenings (1990), James and the Giant Peach (1996), Meet the Parents (2000), Seabiscuit (2003) and The Princess and the Frog (2009). He has scored eight Disney-Pixar films: Toy Story (1995), A Bug's Life (1998), Toy Story 2 (1999), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Cars (2006), Toy Story 3 (2010), and Toy Story 4 (2019) with many more to come. Newman has been nominated for multiple Academy Awards. He has also won three Emmys, Grammy Awards, and the Governor's Award from the Recording Academy. Newman was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2007, he was inducted as a Disney Legend. Newman was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2013.
