Pinocchio is a 2019 Italian fantasy film about the titular wooden puppet who is given life by the Fairy with Turquoise Hair and wants to become a real boy. The film is directed by Matteo Garrone, who also co-wrote the script with Massimo Ceccherini, based on Carlo Collodi's book, The Adventures of Pinocchio. The film stars Roberto Benigni, Federico Ielapi, Rocco Papaleo, Ceccherini, Marine Vacth, and Gigi Proietti. It was released theatrically in Italy on December 19, 2019, and later in the United States on Christmas Day, 2020. The film also features the final performance of Proietti released in his lifetime, as he died a month prior to its US release.
