Max von Sydow was Swedish actor. He had starred in many films and had supporting roles in dozens more in many languages, including Swedish, Norwegian, English, Italian, German, Danish, French and Spanish. He was best known for his frequent collaborations with director, Ingmar Bergman. Some of his memorable films included, The Seventh Seal (1957), Wild Strawberries (1957), The Virgin Spring (1960), Through a Glass Darkly (1961), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), Hawaii (1966), The Emigrants (1971), The New Land (1972), The Exorcist (1973), Three Days of the Condor (1975), Voyage of the Damned (1976), The Flight of the Eagle (1982), Dune (1984), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), Pelle the Conqueror (1988), Awakenings (1990), What Dreams May Come (1998), Snow Falling on Cedars (1999), Minority Report (2002), The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (1997), and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011). His first work with Bergman occurred on stage at the Malmö Municipal Theatre. Von Sydow came to dominate the screen as he did the stage, becoming an idol of the international arthouse film scene. In the mid-1970s, von Sydow had moved to Rome and appeared in a number of Italian films. His television work included "The Diary of Anne Frank", tv mini=series "Quo Vadis?", "Citizen X", and "The Tudors". He passed away in his home on March 8, 2020.
