Issac Hayes was an American soul singer, songwriter, and actor and was one the creative influences behind southern soul music label Stax Records, where he served aa an in-house songwriter and as a record producer teaming up with his partner David Porter during the mid-1960's. He is best known for composing and writing the score and popular song for the 1971 film Shaft and for voicing Chef on the television series "South Park". In August 2008, Hayes died from a stroke.
