Frances McDormand is an American actress. She is the recipient of numerous accolades, including Academy Awards, Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award, which makes her one of the few performers to receive the Triple Crown of Acting. McDormand has starred in a number of films by the Coen brothers, including Blood Simple (1984), Raising Arizona (1987), Fargo (1996), The Man Who Wasn't There (2001), Burn After Reading (2008), and Hail, Caesar! (2016). Her other film roles include Mississippi Burning (1988), Barton Fink (1991), Short Cuts (1993), Primal Fear (1996), Lone Star (1996), Wonder Boys (2000), Almost Famous (2000), Something's Gotta Give (2003), North Country (2005), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), and Moonrise Kingdom (2012). McDormand made her Broadway debut in a 1984 revival of the drama Awake and Sing! and again as Stella Kowalski in a 1988 revival of A Streetcar Named Desire. She returned to Broadway in 2008 with a revival of The Country Girl. In 2011, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for playing a troubled single mother in Good People (2011). On television, McDormand played the titular protagonist in the HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge (2014), which won her the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress.
