Dune: Part One is a 2021 sci-fi film about Paul Atreides, heir to House Atreides, discovering he is destined to lead a native tribe known as the Fremen into war against House Harkonnen. The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who also co-wrote the script with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth, based on the first half of Frank Herbert's book Dune and is the fourth attempt at adapting the book into a visual medium after Alejandro Jodorowsky's never made film, David Lynch's 1984 film and the Syfy miniseries in 2000, as well as the third to actually make it to celluloid. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Furguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Mamoa and Javier Bardem. The film had its world premiere at the 78th Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2021, and was released both in theaters and on WarnerMedia's streaming service HBO Max on October 22.
