Cruella is a 2021 crime comedy film about the origins of Cruella de Ville, the main antagonist of the classic Disney animated film One Hundred and One Dalmatians, acting as both a reboot and prequel to said film. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie, is written by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, and had its story developed by Aline Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel, and Steve Zissis, and is the second live-action film adaptation of One Hundred and One Dalmatians after Stephen Herek's 1996 film and its 2000 sequel. The film stars Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, John McCrea, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Babtiste, Kayvan Novak, and Mark Strong. The film had its world premiere at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles on May 18, 2021, and was released both in theaters and on Disney+ ten days later on May 28.
