Christopher Plummer was a Canadian film, stage and television actor. He was best known for his leading role in the Academy Award-winning musical The Sound of Music. He made his film debut in 1958's Stage Struck, and notable film The Fall of the Roman Empire (1964), Inside Daisy Clover (1965), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Somewhere in Time (1980), An American Tail (1986), Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991), Malcolm X (1992), 12 Monkeys (1995), The Insider (1999), A Beautiful Mind (2001), Syriana (2005), The New World (2005), Up (2009), The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009), The Last Station (2009), Beginners (2011), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), and All the Money in the World (2017). Plummer also ventured into various television projects, including the miniseries Jesus of Nazareth and The Thorn Birds. Plummer won numerous awards and accolades for his work. With his win at the age of 82 in 2012 for Beginners, Plummer was the oldest actor ever to win an Academy Award. With his nomination at the age of 88 in 2018 for All the Money in the World, Plummer was the oldest actor ever to be nominated for an Academy Award. Plummer died on February 5, 2021 from complications from a blow to the head he received from a fall two and a half weeks prior.
