Chadwick Boseman was an American actor. After having attended Howard University and being mentored by the likes of Phylicia Rishad, Boseman acted in the theatre scene before transitioning into bit parts on several TV shows and movies. He would eventually get his big break by starring in back-to-back biopics 42 and Get on Up. These roles got the attention of Marvel Studios, who casted Boseman in the role of African superhero Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War. Boseman continued to play the role in three more Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, including a standalone film, which made history as not only the highest-grossing film directed by a black director, but also as the first superhero film to be nominated for Best Picture, as well the first MCU film to win Oscars. In 2016, Boseman was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer. He continued to act in films while privately taking chemotherapy up until succumbing to the now stage IV disease on August 28, 2020.
