Cate Blanchett is an Austrailian actress who is perhaps best known for her performance as Galadriel in the The Lord of the Rings trilogy. As of 2013, Blanchett is the only performer to win an Oscar for portraying an Oscar-winner (Katherine Hepburn). She has received several awards including, Screen Actors Guild Awards,Golden Globe Awards, BAFTAs, and Academy Awards. She came to international attention for her role as Elizabeth I of England in the 1998 film Elizabeth. In 2004, Blanchett's portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator brought her numerous awards, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Blanchett's other notable films include Babel (2006), Notes on a Scandal (2006), I'm Not There (2007), and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008). Her 2014 Best Actress Oscar win for her performance in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine makes her only the third Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner to later win an Academy Award in a leading role (after Meryl Streep and Jessica Lange).
