Brenda Chapman is an Academy Award-winning American writer, animator, story artist and director. In 1998, she became the first woman to direct an animated feature from a major studio, DreamWorks Animation's The Prince of Egypt. Chapman also worked in story and development for other Disney animated films such as The Rescuers Down Under (1990), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), and Fantasia 2000. She joined DreamWorks Animation at its inception in the fall of 1994. Chapman moved to Pixar in 2003, beginning development on and directing Brave (2012). Chapman conceived the project and was announced as the director of the film, making her Pixar's first female director. In October 2010, however, she was replaced by Mark Andrews. She remained on staff until shortly after the release of Brave (2012), and started work as a consultant at Lucasfilm at the end of July 2012. In 2013, she has returned to DreamWorks Animation, where she is developing an adaptation of a children's book that has a strong female protagonist and is described as "funny with magic and heart." Other credits include Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Shrek (2001), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008), Up (2009) and Toy Story 3 (2010).
