The film entered into a limited release in North America on December 13, 2019, before a wide release on December 20, by Lionsgate. The film received generally positive reviews, with critics mainly praising the performances of the cast (particularly of Theron, Robbie, and Lithgow) but was criticised for its screenplay and inaccuracies. For their performances, Theron and Robbie were nominated for Best Actress – Drama and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, at the 77th Golden Globe Awards.
